北海道生まれ。名寄高校在学時に吹奏楽部を創部。
競馬で万馬券を的中させ、それを資金にアメリカへ留学。
2000年バークリー音楽大学(ボストン)卒業。帰国後SOIL&”PIMP”SESSIONS(以下ソイル)を結成(’16脱退)。
感性と技術の粋をみせた唯一無二のプレイスタイルで観客を魅了してきた。英国BBCラジオでパワープレイされ、イギリスBBCラジオWORLD WIDEアワード2005受賞。受賞式をソイルの演奏で締めくくった。Jazz Japanアワード2011受賞。
5大陸34か国70都市以上の海外ツアーを行い、グラストンベリー、モントルージャズ、ノースシージャズ、ワールドワイドフェス、トランスムジカ、アレッツォウェブ、モントリオールジャズ、ジャワジャズ、ケープタウンジャズ、ジャジスタン、ウォーマッド、フジロックのメインステージをコンプリート(グリーン、ホワイト、レッド、ヘブン、オレンジ)、ロッキンジャパン、サマソニ、ライジングサン、ジョインアライブ、サンセットライブなど、国内外の主要フェスに出演。
NHKトップランナー、紅白歌合戦、Mステ、映画『選挙フェス』等出演。
リオ・オリンピック閉会式トウキョウショーレコーディング参加。

Motoharu
Saxophone player from Nayoro, Hokkaido. Founded his high school brass band and, after winning a horse racing jackpot, studied in the U.S. Graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2000, then co-founded SOIL&“PIMP”SESSIONS (left in 2016).
Celebrated for his unique sensibility and technical mastery, he has won the BBC Worldwide Award (2005) and the Jazz Japan Award (2011), with his music featured as a BBC Radio power play.
Motoharu has performed in over 70 cities across 34 countries on five continents, appearing at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Montreux, North Sea Jazz, and Cape Town Jazz. In Japan, he has conquered all Fuji Rock main stages, and performed at Rock in Japan, Summer Sonic, Rising Sun, among others.
He has appeared on NHK Top Runner, Kōhaku Uta Gassen, Music Station, and in the film Senkyofes, and took part in the Tokyo Show recording for the Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony. Currently, he curates Jam Session Tokyo Declaration, Battle Of Study, Music Lab, and Rhythm’s “KING”, while actively performing with multiple bands and projects.
